Minister of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) Paola Bustamante affirmed that good news from a neutral international organization on a possible certification of government social programs will come at the end of the year.

Midis’ head expressed her satisfaction over the ISO 9001:2008 certification granted to Pension 65 program by the International Organization for Standardization, as it achieved the highest standards in its quality management system.

According to Bustamante, the certification highlights the process followed by Pension 65 to reach beneficiaries –older adults living in extreme poverty– who are provided S/.250 (about US$89) every two months.

“The quality of the process is certified to make payments to beneficiaries indeed. We are looking to certify other programs such as Qali Warma, Cuna Mas, Haku Wiñay and Juntos. We hope to move forward on this process through the year end and have good news for everyone,” she noted.

The idea is to provide the next government with social programs holding ISO certifications, since they ensure high quality level. “These standards should be guaranteed,” she pointed out.

Pension 65 potential demand is equivalent to 600,000 older adults living in extreme poverty, and the target will be completely met once additional 50,000 users receive such support. She also mentioned that about 3,000 older adults die in situation of extreme poverty every two or three months.
