There are plenty of attractions and activities to enjoy around Peru's capital city, especially these days that Peruvians will enjoy a three-day-long weekend because of the holiday on Dec. 8 (Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception).

According to Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), Ica is likely to be one of the regions to receive an important number of national tourists these days.

Other popular destinations include the Norte Chico area of north-central coastal Peru, as well as Huaraz, Huancayo and Chosica.

As stated by PromPeru's Tourism Director Marisol Acosta, Ica's tourist attractions include the oasis town of Huacachina, the Paracas National Reserve, the Nazca Lines and its deserts, among others.

She believes the Norte Chico area will be another popular destination this weekend, with its beaches, the Sacred City of Caral, and the Lachay Hills providing a wide range of entertainment.

Another must-visit is Huaraz —home to the retreating Pastoruri Glacier and the Chavin de Huantar site. The place provides a great opportunity to practice adventure sports.

Huancayo is another good option for a quick getaway. It is famous for the Huaytapallana Glacier, as well as the Ingenio area and fish farms.
