Peru and Germany strengthened their economic cooperation actions for development through a meeting held at the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters.
Held on November 23-24, the event “Peru – Germany Intergovernmental Negotiations on Cooperation for Development” served to assess bilateral projects and programs underway, as well as to propose future lines of work.

The gathering also included a presentation of the goals set by the new Peruvian administration and commitments undertaken in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

In this sense, the two countries identified three major priority areas for future work on bilateral cooperation development: Governance, Sustainable Urban Development and Environment; Natural Resources Management; and Climate Change.

The Peruvian delegation was chaired by Javier Paulinich, General-Director for Economic Affairs at the Foreign Ministry; whereas the German mission was led by Christoph Rauh, Head of the South American Division at the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The bilateral meeting was also attended by various representatives of national sectors and their German cooperation counterparts.

To conclude the audience, the German government offered the Peruvian State €169 million for financial and technical cooperation purposes.

The European country also offered €20 million to the Inca nation for projects selected by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.
