Peru: GDP up by 3% in second quarter of 2015

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 3% in the second quarter of the year, boosted by the dynamism of the Peruvian household consumption, which expanded by 3.3%, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced.

Government spending

Government expenditure increased by 6.3% in the analyzed quarter as the outcome of goods and services acquisition (17.5%).

Indeed, a higher spending was registered in education (52.8%), defense (23.6%), interior (20.5%), health (16%), economy & finances (8%), as well as on remunerations.

Investment and exports

Domestic machinery and equipment acquisition increased (2.6%) associated to greater demand for other metal structures (5.1%). 

Economic activity

In the second quarter of this year, agriculture, ranching, hunting and silviculture activities increased (2.9%) due to greater production of agricultural (1.6%) and livestock (6.1%) sub-sectors.

Fishing and aquaculture expanded (36.6%) for both, indirect (65%) and direct (6.3%) human consumption. In turn, inland fishery increased (2.3%).

Oil, gas and mineral extraction activities increased by 7% associated to greater production of minerals and related services (13.7%) due to higher output of metallic minerals.

Electricity, gas and water production expanded (5.4%) due to good performance of electricity and gas sub-sector, which increased (5.5%), influenced by greater production of electricity (5.8%) and water sub-sector (5.1%).

As well as, trade increased (3.9 %), transport, storage, mail and messaging activities (2.4%), services provided to enterprises (5.2%), accommodation and restaurants (3.1%) and manufacture (0.2%).
