The official visit China's Prime Minister, Li Keqiang, pays to Peru will be “fruitful” and serve as a tool to fortify the comprehensive strategic partnership achieved by Peru-China relations, Peru's former Chancellor Gonzalo Gutierrez affirmed.

China catalogs Latin American associates at different partnership levels. The "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" is considered to be the highest level one. Both nations elevated relations to this level during President Humala's visit to China in 2013, he indicated.

“Li is touring several Latin American countries, which are considered by the People’s Republic of China as especially dynamic and belong to the highest hierarchy in terms of relevance as political, economic and trade partners," declared Gutierrez.

Mr. Li Keqiang is the second-ranked member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party. That is the reason why his visit to Peru constitutes the most important paid by a current Chinese government official.

Thus, this visit enables to strengthen the high priority China gives to Peru concerning its relations with Latin American countries, the former Chancellor pointed out.

According to the Gutierrez, there is an additional cultural element, which is “essential” for the relationship.
“Peru has the largest Chinese community in Latin America. 10% of Peruvian citizens may have Chinese blood in them,” he expressed.

Mr. Gutierrez, who has served as Peru's Ambassador to China for almost 3 years, highlighted the cultural importance of this visit, since the Chinese Premier visit is accompanied by that of 2012 Nobel Prize in literature, Mo Yan, who will give a conference at Universidad Mayor de San Marcos.
