Deputy Mines Minister Guillermo Shinno said Peru has been making progress towards dialogue with several communities over the development of mining projects currently underway in the country; within a context of investment attractiveness over the past year.

“The country’s attractiveness has improved compared to 2013 and administrative processes have been simplified in order to unlock mining investments within a context of progress towards dialogue with communities,” he stated.

According to the Canadian Fraser Institute’s Annual Survey of Mining Companies, Peru ranks 30th in the investment attractiveness index, “which means it is an attractive destination for mining investment.”

Portfolio of Projects

Mr. Shinno informed the current portfolio consists of projects totaling US$63.1 billion, taking into account that Constancia project in Cusco is no longer part of it, since it has entered the production phase.

This year mineral production has rebounded considerably, as is the case of copper, iron, zinc, silver and, particularly lead.
