Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Rafael Roncagliolo will travel to Ecuador on March 11 to attend the Conference of States Parties to the American Convention on Human Rights, also known as Pact of San Jose.

The meeting in Guayaquil was to take place on March 8 but was moved to Monday due to passing of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

According to Ecuador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the gathering was arranged at the request of the member states of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the American Convention on Human Rights.

The American Convention on Human Rights, or Pact of San Jose, Costa Rica, was adopted in 1969 and entered into force in 1978. It is a key regional human rights instrument for the protection of civil and political rights within the Western Hemisphere.

Minister of Culture, Luis Peirano Falconi, will act as Foreign Minister during Roncagliolo's absence.
