The Executive Branch authorized the trip of Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna Mendoza to Washington D.C., New York, (U.S.) Paris (France) and Madrid (Spain) for different activities related to his sector.

According to a supreme resolution published in El Peruano official gazette, the government official will be overseas from May 27 to June 14.

Washington D.C. and New York

While in Washington D.C., he will participate in the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs to consider the situation in Venezuela.

The event will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at the Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters, as agreed by the Permanent Council of the hemispheric body.

He will also attend previous meetings on May 29 and 30 in order to explore the best options to achieve success at the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

On June 2, Luna is set to take part in the elections for non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council for the 2018-2019 term at the international organization's headquarters.

As is known, Peru's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the Council has been backed by Latin American and Caribbean nations, as well as other countries; so Luna's presence and participation is necessary to secure such support.

Moreover, he will attend meetings on June 1 and 2 with UN Secretariat senior officials, permanent representatives and Foreign Affairs ministers from the Netherlands, Poland, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Kuwait.

Paris and Madrid

From June 6 to 13, the diplomat will be part of the Peruvian delegation accompanying President Pedro Pablo Kaczynski in his Paris visit to attend the International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Luna will join President Kuczynski in his June 12-13 visit to Madrid, where he is expected to meet with Spanish King Felipe VI and President of the Government Mariano Rajoy.

The delegation will also meet academics, politicians and businessmen while in the Spanish capital.
