The 2016 General Budget of the Republic will be sober, but reasonable in line with what the Law on Responsibility and Fiscal Transparency states.

Likewise, Segura seemed to be confident the Congress will understand the relevance of such proposal.

"It is a sober budget in line with times; we said opportunely that we've had [implemented] a countercyclical policy, but it can not be permanent [...] the budget is sober, but reasonable and according to what the Law on Responsibility and Fiscal Transparency states [...]," he told.

Segura said the Ministry currently goes through a "decisive period" in the budget formulation, which should be defined by the end of August.

"Then, we have to enter a dynamic with Congress, which Presidency is held by the opposition; therefore, this should represent a change in the dynamic, but we are sure they will understand the intention. We think the good intentions can become real actions," he told RPP radio and TV station.

Countercyclical policies

The Finance Minister also said Peru was one of the first countries to adopt countercyclical policies, taking measures into account to boost economy in the short-term, such as tax cuts.

"What better way to do this, than by reducing taxes. In such situation, Chile and Colombia raised taxes. We adopt other policies, actions and measures which could help us repair the 'rules of the game', in order to have a higher predictability," he added.
