Peru's Economy and Finance Minister Fernando Zavala said his sector is targeting efforts towards achieving 2.8% of GDP this year.

Mr. Zavala, who concurrently serves as Prime Minister, also projected an economic expansion of 3.8% for 2018.

Measures have been taken to boost public and private spending during the second half of this year, he said.

Plus, such actions support the recovery of exports underpinned by a rise in metal prices and higher shipments of non-traditional products.

"We are working to finish the year at a 2.8% growth rate," he underlined.

The Cabinet chief went on to say the Peruvian economy is estimated to grow between 3.8% and 4% in 2018, according to the latest Multiannual Macroeconomic Framework, which is still unreleased.

"We expect to see a 4% rise as a result of some additional measures, and we want such growth to be close to 5% after 2018. However, that depends on the actions the Government is planning to take," he affirmed.
