Finance Minister Alonso Segura stressed the Peruvian inflation rate remains to be the lowest in the region, despite the fact that it surpasses the target range (1%-3%) set by Peru’s Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

"Peru's inflation [rate] is still the lowest in the region, and we also have one of the smallest target ranges […]. In Chile it was set at 3%, whereas in Colombia at 4%,” he told RPP radio and TV station.

The inflation increase responds mainly to external factors, such as the US Dollar exchange rate increase, which has an impact on prices for imported goods in the nation.

BCR correct performance

This scenario is leading the BCR officials to consider adjourning its expansive policy, "which is correct."
