In Peru, the real per capita income has grown in low—resourced families’ households, Finance Minister Alonso Segura said.
After the poverty reduction results were made official, Segura emphasized Peru had managed to achieve the most “pronounced” poverty reduction in Latin America, despite the economic slowdown the region is “currently going through.”
“Peru stands out among countries reducing poverty because we have implemented focalized social inclusion programs,” the Minister indicated.
In this sense, the head of the Finance Ministry reaffirmed the government focusing on low-income households leads to empowering the segment, so it can become less vulnerable to the external economic situation.
He went on to add the economic growth is not enough to reduce poverty. Thus, it needs to be “joined” by social policies.
