Peru is hoping to see 4,000 visitors from Taiwan by the end of 2013 as a result of burgeoning economic and cultural ties, the Commercial Office of Peru in Taipei said Wednesday.
"Taiwan is one of the fastest-growing markets for us," said the office's director Gycs M. Gordon, adding that the number of Taiwanese tourists to the South American country has been growing by an annual 20 percent.
According to website Focus Taiwan, Gordon said Peru hopes to attract 10,000 tourists from Taiwan by the end of 2016 following a series of promotional events hosted by the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PromPeru), which launched its first road show in Taiwan on Wednesday.
PromPeru will be engaging with local travel agents through trade fairs and business-to-business events during their stay in Taiwan, and other related travel campaigns will be held in the months to come, the office said.
Asian countries, especially Taiwan, China, Japan and South Korea, have become increasingly important to Peru's tourism development, PromPeru said.
Some 120,000 Asian tourists visited Peru in 2012, an annual 14 percent growth, according to the commission.
