Peru: Expo Amazonica to improve local producers' life quality

Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Jose Hernandez affirmed Expo Amazonica 2017 fair is a potential showcase for Peruvian rainforest products.

The minister thus describes this event as a "huge opportunity" to value Peruvian Amazon's biodiversity, indigenous communities' ancient cultures and native peoples.

Expo Amazonica 2017 will also serve to foster domestic and international tourism, as well as improve rainforest farmers' quality of life.

It must be noted offered products not only rely on economic potential, but also on nutritional one.

This year's edition —whose business rounds are expected to generate at least US$15 million— kicked off on Thursday and will run until Sunday.

The opening ceremony featured Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and State ministers, including Hernandez.

The event is expected to host over 40,000 visitors and 500 businesspeople this year.

As is known, Expo Amazonica is a fair institutionalized by the Amazonian Inter-Regional Council (CIAM) in 2010. Its main goal is to promote private investments in Peruvian Amazon regions, as well as their farming, forestry, cultural, tourist and gastronomic potentials.

Some exporters represent regions Loreto, Ucayali, Amazonas, Madre de Dios, Huanuco, Puno, Junin, Pasco, Cusco, Ayacucho, Lambayeque, Piura, Tumbes, Cajamarca and Ancash. 

Countries as Brazil, Ecuador and Colombia are also participating in the event.
