Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has exempted citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania —European Union members— Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Norway —Schengen area countries— from the temporary visa requirement.

According to a supreme decree, European Union Schengen area students, businessmen and journalists are not required a temporary visa for up-to-90-day stays in Peru.

Taking this into account, the benefit was extended to citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Norway, some of which are part of the European Union and the Schengen area.

Agreement means either a continuous visit or several consecutive visits during a 6-month period.

The regulation will come into force on the day after its publication in El Peruano official gazette.

The document was signed by President Ollanta Humala Tasso, Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez, and Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe.

It is worth mentioning Peru has signed an agreement with the European Union that will allow Peruvian nationals to visit Schengen countries without a visa.

Such agreement shall enter into force after its ratification and once biometric passports start being issued.
