Peru establishes special project aimed at 2016 APEC meetings

Peru’s Executive Power established a special project named Peru APEC 2016 within the sphere of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a bid to prepare and organize the 2016 APEC Leaders’ Meeting.

Published on Tuesday August 18 in El Peruano official gazette, the supreme decree states that Peru APEC 2016 will lead, execute, monitor and assess the activities related to the preparedness, organization and development of scheduled meetings.

Furthermore, it will implement the necessary actions to assist physical infrastructure and provide the equipment needed to carry out the meetings –due to be held in 2015-16– in accordance with a timetable defined by Peru.

It will also ensure the achievement of organization and safety standards required by the APEC Forum, and will make the necessary arrangements with public and private sectors, as well as national and foreign organizations.

Peru APEC 2016 will be headed up by an executive coordinator, who is responsible for leadership, management and representation, and will be appointed through a resolution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within not more than 15 working days as of the day following the decree’s publication.

In order to achieve Peru APEC 2016 objective, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to enter into agreements with public and private institutions on the national and international levels, as well as with international organizations.

Peru APEC 2016 period of validity shall be 90 working days after the 2016 APEC Leaders’ Meeting ends, date on which the executive coordinator will submit the Final Report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
