400 teachers, who are in charge of the Full School Day’s English subject taught in Peruvian schools, take part in the Education Ministry-organized "Winter School" training program held in Lima and aimed at enhancing the teaching methods.
The program opening ceremony was held at the Melitón Carvajal public school presided over by Minister of Pedagogical Management Flavio Figallo.
This training -led by the Ministry and Pearson Educación institution- is composed of two stages. In the first, educators will be trained for 120 hours. The second phase will be conducted online during the next three months.
By the end of the process, teachers will take the international Teaching Knowledge Test required to obtain a certification.
The objective is to reinforce teachers' pedagogical skills and to contribute to a better foreign language teaching system with the aim of benefitting public school students, the Regular Elementary Education director at Minedu Cecilia Ramírez affirmed.
"Winter School" is comprised in Minedu's Puertas al mundo (Gates to the World) initiative intended to improve English teaching, so pupils graduate from public schools having reached the level required according to international standards.
