The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that electricity production in Peru grew 5.70% as of July 2015 from the same period last year.
The demand was met by hydraulic energy (51%), natural gas (47%) and non-conventional energy sources such as: biomass, biogas and wind-power (2%).
The companies, which sell energy, produced 3,789 GW/h (accounts for 94% of the total production). Energy for own consumption amounted to 226 GW/h (6% of the total).
Hydroelectric power plants’ output reached 1,754 GW/h (up by 8.2%). Thermoelectric power plants generated 2,197 GW/h, whereas non-conventional sources (solar and wind) produced 63 GW/h.
The participation of State-run companies in electricity generation was of 23.9% with regard to the total generated by the market.
Meanwhile, production of plants owned by private groups such as Endesa, Suez and Globeleq accounted for 17.1% and 15.7%, respectively.
It should be noted Fenix Power saw a 64.2% surge in production, as did Egemsa (28.7%).
