Peru electricity output chained 67 months of positive growth up to May 2015

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that electricity production in Peru grew 5.40% as of May 2015 from the same period last year, enjoying 67 months of continued growth.

The companies that led this growth are Electro Peru, Egenor, Termoselva, Statkraft Peru (formerly SN Power Peru), San Gaban, Egemsa and Electro Piura.

INEI reported that, according to figures from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the government investment spending increased by 22.93% and the government consumption spending rose 16.91%.

On the other hand, the amount of loans granted to large, medium-sized, small and micro enterprises expanded by 19.28%. Likewise, consumer and mortgage credit grew by 17.57% and 15.63%, respectively.

According to preliminary data as of June 28 this year, May total exports decreased by 18.73%, affected by lower shipments of traditional (-22.39%) and non-traditional products (-9.91%).

Low demand traditional products included those in mining, oil and gas industries; while agricultural and fishing products experienced a higher demand.

The non-traditional products whose shipments went down are those from the agriculture, textile, fisheries, chemical, and iron and steel industries; however, May saw a surge in demand for metal mechanical products and non-metallic mining.

On the other hand, imports dropped 17.77%, impacted by decreased purchases of raw materials and intermediate goods (-20.84%), consumption goods (-16.89%) and capital goods (-13.93%).
