Deputy Economy Minister Claudia Cooper said Peruvian economy may have started recovering in May, considering the improvement observed in electricity demand and purchase orders.
"We have noticed some leading indicators suggest the worst is over. Thus, we are perceiving a better performance in electricity demand and inventory purchase orders," she said.
Also, tax collection seems to have improved and
public investment appears to have held up fairly well in June, the Economy and Finance Ministry (MEF) official said in a speech at the seminar "Peru CFO Summit 2017," organized by El Dorado Investments.
Cooper underlined that despite the impact of the so-called "Coastal El Niño" weather phenomenon and the Odebrecht corruption scandal, the
Peruvian economy managed to expand.
"Therefore, the economy has to start growing again. We hope to see results of the Kuczynski administration right after we overcome the effects of Coastal El Niño," she was quoted as saying.
