In the first quarter of 2016 Peruvian economy may have expanded 4.3% underpinned by primary sectors, BBVA Research Economist-in-Chief Hugo Perea affirmed.

The BBVA officer went on to add the extractive sector would have experienced the greatest expansion.

In this sense, copper mining would have essentially contributed 1.8 percentage point to GDP.

A stronger mining activity, along with infrastructure projects, would allow total GDP to expand 3.6% this year, Perea projected.

He noted primary activities, in general, may have grown 9.7% in the first three-month period of the year, whereas the non-primary sector may have merely expanded slightly above 2%.

BCR

According to Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde, GDP may have risen 4.5% in the first quarter of the year.
