The Peruvian Government is taking necessary steps to expand its GDP growth above 4% in 2018, which might be possible as evidenced by strong performance on some indicators, Economy and Finance Minister Fernando Zavala informed.

On Wednesday, Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Velarde said the Economy and Finance Ministry's (MEF) plans and proposed reforms might allow 2018's GDP growth rate to be higher than the expected 4%.

On the matter, Zavala said the Government has proposed a base growth scenario of 4% for 2018.

"However, we are doing whatever is necessary to grow at least 4% or higher, if possible," he told reporters.

Likewise, the also Prime Minister affirmed key indicators show a change in the growth trend.

"Such indicators are associated, for example, with the execution of public investment, which rose more than 16% in August and is expected to expand at a similar rate in September," he expressed.

As is known, Peru's economy grew 4% in 2016.
