At least 500,000 (foreign and domestic) tourists are expected to arrive in southern Cusco city to join its jubilee month celebrations, Mayor Carlos Moscoso informed.

As is known, June is a special month for the imperial city, and sees the most important festivals of its calendar.

According to Moscoso, Cusco and local citizens are ready to welcome travelers with open arms.

During the celebrations, visitors will be able to enjoy the city's cultural and historic heritage.

In statements to Andina news agency, Moscoso noted Cusco welcomed at least 300,000 sightseers in previous years. However, tourism growth may help fulfill the goal of doubling said figure in 2017.

Likewise, the burgomaster affirmed the city and provinces are capable of receiving tourists due to the high number of hotels, restaurants and travel agencies available in the region.

In addition, he underlined Machu Picchu will remain the most visited site in Cusco.

Furthermore, archaeological parks Sacsayhuaman and Sacred Valley of the Incas will stand out on the occasion.

In addition, Moscoso invited travelers to participate in academic and cultural activities like the festivities of Cruz Velacuy, Corpus Christi, Lord of Qoyllorit'i, Inti Raymi, among others.

It must be noted Cusco's main day is June 24, when the Inti Raymi ritual takes place. The Sun Festival is held the same day at Sacsayhuaman Fortress.
