Starting Monday Lima will become the world's financial discussion center thanks to the beginning of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to run thru October 11, Peru's Culture Minister Diana Alvarez-Calderon affirmed.

According to the government official, the meetings have particular relevance, since the world economic outlook will be discussed.

Alvarez-Calderon stressed that the mega-event is held at a special moment for Peru, since the national economy displays positive growth indicators, despite the negative environment currently hitting many countries and trade blocs.

"Thank God, Peru has continued to grow and has been highly ranked by all these organizations. Likewise, we have a first world’s Convention Center, and we are ready to receive these types of meetings from time to time, which will turn Lima into the most important center in Latin America," she expressed.

According to the Minister, the Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund return to Lima after more than three decades.

"We had numerous debts to pay 30 years ago; and Peru didn't enjoy a stable economic situation to solve issues back then […]. Nowadays, Peru is a different country. Currently, Peru has wealth thanks not only to its own resources, but also because Peruvians have changed their way of thinking; the economy has been responsibly run and it has grown despite the remainder of the region's economies didn't," she noted.
