Peru: Cross-border tourism up in the last years

Cross-border tourism has consolidated in the last years thanks to the strategies put in place, which aim at attracting more tourists from neighboring nations, such as: Ecuador and Chile, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.

Peruvian gastronomy usually draws the attention of Chilean tourists, who attend fairs. On this occasion, "Perú mucho gusto" food festival is to be held in Tacna on May 1 – 3 this year. The event will put the best of Southern Peruvian food on display.

"We expect a considerable number of tourists coming from Chile, since 'Peru Mucho Gusto' food festival is also a tourist attraction for those interested in culinary tourism," stated Silva.

According to estimates, 25,000 tourists will arrive in the city for the event. They will be able to find dishes from Southern regions, such as: Arequipa, Moquegua, Apurímac and Tacna.

Border tourism is growing in Northern Peru, it was informed. Birding competition is one of the many activities, which also draws the attention of Ecuadorian tourists heading to regions such as: Tumbes and Piura.
