Peru Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal said he is confident the international conference on climate change COP21, to be held in Paris, will make a real commitment to fight against climate change.
“I’m absolutely convinced it will be so,” he underlined after taking as a good sign the national contributions that each country has been making to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases since COP19 in Warsaw and COP20 in Lima.
He noted the attitude of the United States, China, and France towards taking firm measures in order to reduce emissions in their countries, which leads them to think positively in the signing of a binding agreement in Paris over a text that is being analyzed.
“There is political will; the negotiation text exists, it was 35 pages long during the meeting in Bonn and that text is going to reach Paris,” he told Canal N, a local channel in Peru.
Unlike previous COP meetings, the one in Paris will kick off with the presidential high-level segment, which is set to bring more than 50 heads of state together.
“This is a good thing, because it puts political pressure in the beginning, and not at the end,” he added.
