The Government of Peru has called on the Americas’ Foreign Affairs Ministers to meet with the purpose of assessing the situation of neighboring nation Venezuela.

In a release, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced the audience would be held on August 8 at the institution's headquarters in Lima.

The Inca country expects the attendance of Foreign Ministers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Paraguay, among others.

"In light of the situation arising from elections for a Constituent Assembly and its impact on the democratic order in Venezuela, Peru has convened a meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers […]," the statement reads.

As is known, Nicolas Maduro's administration on Sunday held elections for a Constituent Assembly to rewrite the constitution.

Poll results have been described as foul and sham by the opposition. The process was also condemned by several Latin American nations, including Peru.

Elections led to yet another wave of protests silenced by pro-government sectors.

Sunday's political turmoil has so far claimed 10 lives.
