10:40 | Lima, Sep. 29.

The Congress of Peru will vote to give President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski’s government broad leeway to rule by decree for 90 days.

The special session was due to begin at 9 a.m. at the Congress headquarters in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

Last night, the Congress Constitution Commission agreed to grant President Kuczynski special powers to legislate on economy and formalization, public safety, fight against corruption, water and sanitation and Petroperu restructuring.

Lawmakers have reduced the period that the executive could command legislative powers to 90 days from 120.

The Congress agenda also includes a request from the Executive for the trip of President Kuczynski to Ecuador on October 7.

While in Ecuador, the Peruvian leader is expected to attend the Presidential and Binational Cabinet Meeting in Macas.
