Peruvian Congress Chairman Luis Galarreta emphasized the United States assistance provided to Peru on different fields, mainly on strategic partnership to stop drug-trafficking in our societies.

Earlier today, Galarreta met with a bipartisan delegation from the United States Congress' House of Representatives, led by Peter Roskam, chairman of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP).

"It is an honor to have you here at the Parliament, Peru's Democracy House, where we hold arduous debates, just as you do at the United States Congress," Galarreta said.

After noting the good bilateral relations and thanking the U.S. assistance in Peru's development programs, the Congress head called for a renewed commitment to combating drug-trafficking.

He said the Inca nation displays a sound economic and macroeconomic performance, despite the political noise.

"The reforms implemented over the past 25 years have prevented political issues from hindering the continued economic growth of Peru," he pointed out.

Galarreta was joined by Mario Mantilla and Mauricio Mulder, Vice-Chairpersons of the Congress Board of Directors.

The U.S. delegation, on the other hand, was composed of legislators Peter Roskam (R-IL), David Price (D-NC), Stephen Knight (R-CA), Susan Davis (D-CA), Tom Rice (R-SC), Dina Titus (D-NV), Bill Flores (R-TX), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Norma Torres (D-CA).

Later, U.S. House of Representatives members met with their peers at different Peruvian commissions.
