Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Maria Sanchez confirmed before the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C. that Peru will host the Eighth Summit of the Americas in 2018.

On the sidelines of the 45th OAS General Assembly, Sanchez reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to hold the Eighth Summit of the Americas, which will provide a space for dialogue and negotiation and will yield positive results in favor of the population.

The aim is to work together on shared aims and common priorities towards implementing concrete actions.

During the Seventh Summit held in Panama City, President Humala urged heads of state to reflect and understand that the biggest threat facing the region has to do with inequality, hunger and poverty, which implies a common challenge that requires to be addressed through concrete actions and convergence of positions.

In this sense, Sanchez reaffirmed Peru’s pledge to deepen what has been done throughout the hemispheric process of dialogue and cooperation, lend continuity to a number of mandates agreed in Panama, and identify the issues to be discussed at the next summit meeting in Lima, Peru.

The Peruvian Chancellor continued to stress that such hemispheric forum for dialogue and cooperation has addressed the changes occurring worldwide since its establishment in 1994.

Furthermore, Cuba's recent participation in the 2015 Summit of the Americas has been welcomed with great satisfaction by all member, as it suggests exclusion has been overcome in the region and helps strengthen the consensus-seeking process on the basis of mutual trust.
