The Peruvian Government on Thursday condemned the rupture of democratic order in Venezuela and announced the permanent withdrawal of its Ambassador to the Bolivarian nation.

In a release, Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry addressed the Venezuelan Supreme Court decision to take over the powers of the National Assembly (Congress).

The Ministry calls the decision "an arbitrary measure that violates the rule of law," as well as "a rupture of constitutional and democratic order" in the neighboring country.

"The decision made by the [Supreme] Court on March 27 granting the Venezuelan President powers that constitutionally belong to other branches of government is an egregious breach of democratic order in that country," the release reads.

"In light of the gravity of such events, the Government of Peru has decided to permanently withdraw its Ambassador from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," the statement continues.

Ambassador Mario Lopez Chavarri —the envoy in question— had been previously recalled for consultations after Maduro's Government directed insolent remarks to Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

Peru's Foreign Ministry also highlights it has begun consultations with other members of the Organization of American States (OAS) to urgently adopt corresponding measures, within the framework of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

President Kuczynski shared the release on social media after describing the event as "unacceptable."
