The Government of Peru has condemned a rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea using ballistic missile technology, as it did not recognize the UN Security Council resolution that bans this country from doing so.

Through a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peru supported the condemnation the UN Council expressed on Sunday, and reaffirmed its commitment to the decisions taken by such organization in favor of peace and security in northeastern Asia.

Likewise, Peru ratified its support to the United Nations Secretary General referring to the Six-Party Talks on denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

“The Government of Peru expresses its concern for this test and underlines its negative consequences for the Northeast Asian region’s stability, mainly of security and global peace order, in general,” reads the statement.

Carrier rocket Kwangmyongsong blasted off from the Sohae Space Center on Sunday, state news agency KCNA reported.

According to the North Korean government, the rocket was aimed at putting a satellite into orbit, but the international community reacted with alarm, as the launch was carried out using ballistic missile technology, which could be used for war purposes, too.
