The invaluable humanitarian efforts by military forces of neighboring Colombia have so far translated into more than 70 flight hours and 447 victims rescued in Peru's northern regions, ravaged by torrential rains and flooding.

Prior coordination between both countries' Defense Ministries, a Colombian contingent —and aircrafts— joined relief and assistance activities in the Inca nation.

To this end, the General Command of the Military Forces of Colombia arranged the shipping of 30 tons of humanitarian aid on a 727 Boeing aircraft.

The contribution also included National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) staff, search and rescue equipment, as well as satellite communication devices.

On the other hand, Colombia's National Army contributed one ton of humanitarian aid and two MI-17 helicopters to support victims in northern Trujillo region.

Similarly, the Colombian Air Force dispatched two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to Piura region, where they have carried out several rescue missions for citizens in rain- and flood-stricken localities.

Aid was also delivered to Colombian families residing in emergency areas and 14 Colombian citizens were transported via the Lima-Bogota route.

Colombian crews and aircrafts will remain in the Inca nation until April 1 carrying out emergency response operations in affected areas.

"The Military Forces of Colombia will keep providing all the necessary international cooperation when sister nations require our support and solidarity in cases of tragedies and natural disasters," its General Command affirmed.
