The Second Binational Cabinet of Peru-Colombia Ministers and Presidents’ Meeting to take place in Medellin (Colombia) will address the joint fight against drug-trafficking, the government-run National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) Executive Chairman Alberto Otarola.

Devida designs and manages the national policy for the fight against drugs, in an efficient and concerted way, by coordinating, promoting and guiding programs and projects toward this end. This national commission is provided from resources of the State and support of the international community

According to Otarola, joined efforts are being undertaken by Devida and Peru’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to grant a fair and "concrete reference" to the Medellin Declaration. The document will be signed by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and his Peruvian counterpart, Ollanta Humala.

"We have a very good and fluent relationship with Colombia, and we have [signed] several agreements to jointly fight drug-trafficking. If there is something both nations can do, is to take a look at our joint border, which comprises Putumayo and the Amazonian Trapeze,” he told Andina news agency.

The Peruvian government decided to intervene in the area some time ago due the presence of delinquents from both nations, who carry out drug trafficking-related activities through the Amazon River, he noted.

Otarola went on to add "concrete response" on the matter will emerge over upcoming weeks.

The Second Binational Cabinet of Ministers and Presidents’ Meeting will be held in Medellin on October 30 and 31.
