Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Angela Holguin, will visit Peru on Monday to meet with her Peruvian counterpart Ana Maria Sanchez. They will assess the commitments assumed during the First Binational Cabinet, held last September in Iquitos.

Colombian Ambassador to Peru, Maria Elvira Pombo, informed the bilateral meeting will also discuss details on the Second Binational Cabinet, whose date will be confirmed soon.

“This is the first bilateral gathering between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries. Colombia is very interested in strengthening ties with Peru, because it is a neighboring nation with which we share the common objective of developing economically and fighting organized crime,” she was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

Colombia has great expectations on the Presidential Summit of the Pacific Alliance –a bloc made of Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Chile– scheduled for June in Paracas city, southern Peru.

During such meeting, chancellors of both nations will sign an agreement to bolster joint actions against human trafficking.

“There are difficulties concerning human trafficking and we need to foster cooperation and share information in cases of suspicion,” she noted.

Human trafficking is a crime associated to drug trafficking and other illicit activities that require constant combat by the two countries.
