Peruvian coffee exports will reach US$700 million in 2016, thus slightly exceeding figures registered last year, the country's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry projected.

It must be noted foreign shipments reached US$600 million last year.

The natural product is exported to 48 target markets. Among them, the United States, Germany and Belgium stand out.

"We must take into account coffee currently goes through a low-price stage," Agribusiness Section General Director Angel Manero warned.

"In the international context, we are talking about [prices standing at] nearly US$110 per quintal. These had exceeded US$300 million at a certain point," he told Andina news agency.

"Although the matter responds to prices, productivity shall not be overlooked," he suggested.

The official went on to add said grain is the country's second most important natural product.

As is known, Peruvian Coffee Day was celebrated on Friday.
