In the first half of 2015 Peruvian cocoa exports totaled US$92.2 million, which meant a 10% growth compared to the similar period last year, the Peruvian Exporters Association (ADEX) announced.
According to ADEX Data Trade Business Intelligence System, main target markets for the said agricultural products were the Netherlands, US$22.2 million (up by 28%) and the United States US$16.8 million. Both destinations accounted for 24% and 18% of its total exports.
Other targets were: Belgium (US$11.0 million); Italy (US$6.4 million); Estonia, Germany, U.K., Spain, Bolivia, Mexico, Australia, Ecuador, Canada and Indonesia, among others.
It must be noted the Peruvian shipments consisted of cocoa beans, cocoa butter, cocoa powder, chocolates and cocoa paste.
According to the ADEX’s Department of Agro management, Peru is the second largest fine cocoa producer and supplier at world level due to the favorable soil and climate conditions, which lead to a high “genetic wealth” in the upper and low Amazonian jungle.
Likewise, it indicated cocoa output reached 78,165 tonnes, 64,659 of which were shipped overseas. It benefitted over 45,000 families directly; and 225,000 indirectly.
