The "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon —characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods— is undoubtedly decreasing, National Emergency Operations Center's (COEN) spokesperson Jorge Chavez informed.

According to the scientific community, said phenomenon should "come to an end" by the end of April.

Nonetheless, Chavez noted emergency areas are under constant monitoring. He added the reconstruction and rehabilitation of affected zones have already kicked off.

Likewise, the spokesman underlined the government currently undertakes efforts to support citizens at refuges.

On the other hand, the COEN representative forecast various regions will be hit by frosts and cold waves this year.
