Peruvian exporting companies have closed deals valued at US$80 billion during this year’s Seafood Expo Global, held April 26-218 in Brussels, Belgium, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva informed.

The event is regarded as the most important international fair in the fisheries sector worldwide.

The Peruvian delegation comprised 31 firms, including seven small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A total of 1,092 contacts were made, and US$80 million have been committed to business projects for the following 12 months, she pointed out.

Entrepreneurs participated with the clear aim of rising and enhancing the presence of Peruvian non-traditional products in the fisheries sector; they also saw an opportunity to expand their network of contacts and promote the export supply.

The products that grabbed the attention of attendees were scallops, prawns and trout.

“This year participants showed how interested they are in developing value added products by introducing quinoa cuttlefish nuggets for the first time,” she noted.

The Peruvian participation was made possible by Promperu and supported by Peru Trade Offices (OCEX) based in Germany, Belgium, France, Holland and Portugal, which took special interest in the contents of the speakers’ agenda.

As the world's largest seafood trade fair,  Seafood Expo Global features more than 26,600 speakers and visitors from 144 countries, mostly from Europe (54%), Asia (26%) and America (13%).
