Peru has climbed one spot to 40th position in the FIFA rankings released by the world soccer governing body on Thursday.
Despite the achievement, Peru still remains in the eighth position among the South American countries.
Argentina, which is ranked third in the world after Spain and Germany, leads the Conmebol rankings followed by Colombia (5th), Uruguay (6th), Brazil (9th), Chile (15th), Ecuador (23rd) and Venezuela (39th).
Peru now has 703 points and its immediate neighbors in the world ranking are Venezuela (704) and Armenia (41st, 699 points).
Peru's world ranking improved despite the fact that its national team has not played any international match in the last two months.
