A delegation from the Standing Committee of Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress headed by Chairman Chen Jianhua recently visited Peru's southern Arequipa city, the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry informed.

It is worth noting both cities have been bound by a twinning relationship since 2004.

On August 4, the delegation held a meeting with Arequipa Province Mayor Alfredo Zegarra, during which Chairman Chen Jinhua underlined bilateral educational and cultural ties developed in the past 13 years of twinning.

In addition, the Chinese official expressed hopes to reach further understanding in terms of tourism, industry, trade and mining.

Chairman Chen Jinhua also addressed his city's aspiration to earn World Heritage status as part of the Maritime Silk Road.

In this sense, he presented Mayor Zegarra with a volume of a book collection documenting Guangzhou's over 2000-year-old history.

The delegation then proceeded to Santa Maria Catholic University's Confucius Institute to donate an entire 520-volume collection.

Santa Maria Catholic University highlighted the value and relevance of the generous contribution, which will undoubtedly enrich Chinese Mandarin teaching at Confucius Institute.

Chairman Chen Jinhua also paid a visit to Yanahuara district municipality, where he was declared distinguished guest by the town mayor.
