Last year, a total of 67,639 Japanese tourists visited the Andean country, an increase of 19.7 percent compared to 2012.
The data released on Monday by Mincetur showed that Japanese tourists outnumbered those who came from Canada (62,820 tourists), Germany (62,570), Mexico (60,270) and the United Kingdom (56,783).
Peru also welcomed about 14,000 South Korean visitors last year, which is 16 percent higher than in 2010.
According to Mincetur, Asian tourists account for 4% of total visitor arrivals to the Andean country.
In 2013, the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Peru reached 3.16 million, up 11.2 percent from 2012.
