Juan Carlos Capuñay Chavez, a career diplomat specializing in Asian affairs, has been named new ambassador to China, the nation’s Foreign Ministry (MRE) has announced

His appointment was authorized Tuesday by the head of State, Ollanta Humala Tasso. Thus, Mr. Capuñay is set to replace Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel as Peru’s top government executive in Beijing.

Mr. Gutierrez resigned to assume the post as current minister of the Peruvian State in charge of Foreign affairs on June 24, 2014.

Mr. Capuñay previously served as Peru's ambassador to Japan, as a high-level embassy attache in Singapore and as Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation's (APEC) Secretariat.

Likewise, the MRE selected Alfredo Jose Castro Perez-Canetto to serve as new ambassador to Nicaragua. The newly appointed envoy to the Central America nation has previously represented Peru as ambassador to Honduras.

The documents announcing the said above-mentioned appointments were signed by President Ollanta Humala Tasso and the head of the Peruvian diplomacy, Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel.
