14:58 | Lima, Aug. 17 (ANDINA).

Peru is one of the top 20 developing countries supplying goods and services to the United Nations in 2011, according to a report on UN procurement last year.

In addition to Peru, four other Latin American countries -Argentina, Brazil, Haiti and Panama- are also featured on the list.

The report, compiled by the United Nations Office for Project Services, reveals a positive increase in UN procurement from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

This accounted for 60 percent of total UN procurement in 2011, compared to 58 percent in 2010, 55 percent in 2009 and 51 percent in 2008.

Overall, the largest countries of supply were the USA, accounting for $1.53 billion, followed by Switzerland at $735.9 million (both countries with large UN offices) and then India at $724.6 million.
