Peruvian Ambassador Mario Juvenal Lopez Chavarri presented credential letters to Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela, the Inca country's Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.

The event took place during a special ceremony held in Panama City last Tuesday.

Such credentials recognize the appointment of Mr. Lopez as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Central American nation.

After extending President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's greetings to the Panamanian leader, the diplomat expressed his government's willingness to boost bilateral ties.

Within this framework, both personalities agreed to strengthen cooperation in education, security, defense, tourism and gastronomy.

Likewise, they talked about the possibility of reinforcing the Peru-Panama Free Trade Agreement, in force since 2012.

In addition, the Inca nation reaffirmed its desire to improve ties with the Central American region through the Central America's Integration System (SICA).

Aimed at achieving the welfare and prosperity of their peoples, the SICA stipulates the adherence of Peru as a regional-member Observer State since 2012.

Lastly, the Ambassador reiterated Peru's gratitude to Panama's government for the humanitarian aid provided in response to "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon floods and landslides, which had battered the Andean country earlier this year.
