Peru: Ambassador Alfredo Chuquihuara decorated by Congress

Ambassador Alfredo Chuquihuara was awarded the Medal of Honor in the Grade of Great Knight in recognition of his distinguished diplomatic career and extraordinary performance as Head of the Peruvian Diplomatic Officials Association.

Former political authorities, besides relatives and friends of the awardee, also attended the homage headed by the Legislative Branch Chairman Luis Iberico in Congress.

During his speech, Iberico stressed Ambassador Chuquihuara's 31 years at the service of Peruvian State, as well as his multiple posts held in the multilateral, bilateral and consular areas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iberico reminded in February 2014 Chuquihuara was elected Peruvian Diplomatic Officials Association President for a two-year-period. Recently, he was appointed Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Austria.

He was the first national diplomat to have obtained an Academic Degree at Harvard University (John F. Kennedy School of Government). Likewise, he holds a degree in Foreign Affairs by the Peruvian Diplomatic Academy, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

According to the Ambassador, being awarded a decoration by the First Branch of Government is an honor. Likewise, he was grateful for his parents and relatives’ support, which was important for his professional career.

"My family instilled certain values such as respect for others, honesty, integrity and the search for excellence; these have been the permanent conduct patterns of my life," he expressed.
