Peru already has a very modern High Performance Center

After its magnificent opening on Monday, the High Performance Center (CAR), located in the Videna (National Sports Village) compound is ready to shelter 16 disciplines.

This center, considered Peru’s most modern sporting facility, has two sportscenters, a residence for 240 athletes and a new-styled velodrome.

The interim President of the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD), Saúl Barrera, welcomed President Ollanta Humala; the First Lady, Nadine Heredia; the deputy minister of Education, Flavio Figallo, and other personalities.

"This center will allow Peruvian athletes to count with the required instruments for proper training, in order to face the most important tournaments of the world. Athletes of 20 [Peruvian] national teams will train here, and this will enable sport triumphs increase," said Barrera.

The High Performance Center will also receive new talents, who will be discovered in the framework of a project carried out by regional and local governments. The project aims at recruiting new athletes.

Disciplines such as: basketball, handball, gymnastics, weightlifting, shooting, Ping-Pong, badminton, bowling, fencing, karate, kung fu, taekwondo, wrestling and judo are trainable at the high performance center.

The entire construction project amounted S/. 132.5 million (around US$ 45.38 million). It began in January 2012.
