Peruvian agro-exports amounted to US$2.032 billion between January and May this year, up 8% against the corresponding period last year, Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) reported.
One of the main achievements during this period has been the increase in agricultural sales abroad, being the United States (26%) the main food importer, followed by the Netherlands (16%), Spain (7%), Ecuador (5%) and China (5%).
The most demanded products included animal food (+61%), fruits (+56%), fresh avocados (+40%), fresh grapes (+20%), unroasted, decaffeinated coffee (+20%), quinoa (+13%) and fresh mangoes (+7%), among others.
Peruvian agricultural products captivated 130 countries and the ones that saw notable growth were South Korea (+117%), China (+66%), Russia (+64%), Ecuador (+30%), Belgium (+22%), Italy (+21%), Spain (+18%), the United States (+14%), Chile (+13%) and Japan (+11%).
During the analyzed period, traditional
agro-exports amounted to US$143 million, a rise of 12% over the same period the year before.
This growth in sales was due to a considerable increase (+20%) of unroasted coffee exports, making up 71% of total shipments.
On the other hand, non-traditional exports expanded 8%, going from US$1.749 billion in 2016 to US$1.889 in the corresponding period this year.
In must be noted non-traditional shipments accounted for 93% of total agro-exports.
