Peru’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has planned to invest S/.1.2 billion (around US$383 million) aimed at developing irrigation projects in some regions throughout 2015.

Alvaro Quine, Executive director of productive development program "Agro Rural," explained his organization is in charge of executing 40% of the projects developed in regions such as Huancavelica and Apurimac. In all, Agro Rural has planned to develop 120 irrigation projects. To date, 100 of those are under execution.

The organization also works supporting prevention projects aimed at mitigating the effects of El Nino climate phenomenon by providing water pumps and tools to residents of Peru’s Northern Tumbes region.

In Southern Peru, the organization will distribute cattle food to counter the scarcity of grass.

Also, 30 water bombs and 920 tool kits have been acquired. Those will enable farmers to clean up their fields.
