The 2016 Public Sector Budget Bill for fiscal year 2016 enhances reforms adopted by the government in social inclusion, education, better education, health, public safety and public infrastructure investment, Chairman of the Parliament Budget Committee Teofilo Gamarra.

The congressman appeared before the Parliament yesterday to speak about the budget —whose proposal amounts to S/.138.4 billion (about US$41.34 billion).

As for the education, he informed the budget amounts to S/.24.8 billion (about US$7.34 billion), that is, 3.85% of GDP and 3.5% higher than the current amount.

This will help promote quality of service and raise teacher salaries, among other things.

On the health sector side, the budget will total S/. 13.4 billion (about US$3.98 billion) and will contribute to the social inclusion strategy "Include to Grow" in order to continue reducing poverty and create more jobs for the less favored sectors.

The proposed amount of the 2016 budget will enable the government to keep working to the close public infrastructure gap, invest in national defense and public safety to combat delinquency, organized crime and drug trafficking, as well as continue its productive diversification policy.

Gamarra went on to add the draft budget preserves fiscal discipline and provides greater predictability in public expenditure and income.

It is consistent with the government economic and social objectives and maintains a moderate level of debt — lower than 25% of GDP.
